For anyone that has any CrossFit friends, or reads blogs from other CrossFitters, I'm sure you've heard them talking about the Open. It's the nationwide competition that is open to ANYONE. Anyone can sign up to compete to see how you rank up against the big boys.
It runs from March 6 - April 7, 2013 and consists of 6 separate workouts (one workout a week). The workouts (WOD's) are posted Wednesday night at 5pm PT and you have until Sunday at 5pm PT to complete the WOD and register your time online. If you complete the WOD at a CrossFit affiliate, the judge from that affiliate will go in and confirm your scores. If you don't belong to an affiliate, you must upload a video of yourself completing the WOD and your video will be judged to ensure that you completed the WOD correctly. Yes, lots of rules but this is exactly how the Elite CrossFit athletes also move onto Regionals and then the Finals.
The first WOD was posted this past Wednesday night and my friends and the internet have been talking about it NON-STOP. It is BRUTAL. I get nervous thinking about having to attempt this.
17 minute AMRAP of:
40 Burpees
30 Snatch, 75 / 45 lbs (men's weight / women's weight)
30 Burpees
30 Snatch, 135 / 75 lbs (men's weight / women's weight)
20 Burpees
30 Snatch, 165 / 100 lbs (men's weight / women's weight)
10 burpees
Max rep Snatch, 210 / 120 lbs (men's weight / women's weight)
I'll be attempting this on Sunday morning so get ready to hear me complain about it when it's all over. And I'm scared to think that the WODs only get harder from here on out. My max snatch PR is 85# so if I even get to the 100# round, this should be entertaining.
A few weeks ago, Headquarters came to our box (aka gym) to film a workout demo and video some stuff prior to the open. They posted it about a week before the Games started and umm... any of these people look famliar? :)
Awesome video before the Games officially started to get everyone motivated...
And for anyone that wants to know what WOD 13.1 is? Check out the video below... Plus the video features one of my biggest CrossFit Female Crushes... Julie Foucher. She is a BEAST!
Good luck to everyone competing! How did you do?

Good luck! (and can't wait until the Disney Games!)
ReplyDeleteBring on the Disney Games!! :)
DeleteI can't even imagine having to do that many burpees. Once I hit 20, they start to get REAL ugly.
ReplyDeleteGood luck! I'm sure you'll do great! :)
Thank you! My burpees stilll get ugly after about 20. Ugh!
