This is another mish-mosh of Disneyland foodie stuff that didn't warrant a full post individually, and I loved every single bite of it!
Flo's V8 Cafe
After the runDisney meetup, we were treated to breakfast at Flo's V8 Cafe. I wish I took more photos while in there but we were starving and talking and I completely forgot!
I'm slightly obsessed with tamale's. I'm not sure WHY I love them so much but I do. So when I saw a chicken tamale on the breakfast menu? Heaven! I proceeded to order this again when we went back a few days later.
Might be my favorite counter service breakfast on either coast. I'm NOT a fan of the mass produced eggs that Disney always serves at all counter service (and some buffets) so I wasn't sure what to expect. But the tamale was delicious and had a good amount of chicken in it, and the salsa verde and pico de gallo masked the eggs enough for me that I loved every bite.

And you can't deny that Flo's doesn't have a great view. If you sit outside you can watch the dueling cars on Radiator Springs Racers!
Cafe Orleans
I have been eyeing the chicken gumbo crepe on this menu since last year. And it didn't disappoint at all! It was slightly too salty for me but still very edible. I loved the little kick from the andouille sausage and the asparagus and potatoes were cooked perfectly. Plus put anything in a crepe and I'm usually happy.

Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe
Didn't get a chance to try any of the 'real' food at Jolly Holiday but got a few desserts and a quiche throughout the week!

| Chocolate Flourless Cake |
The chocolate flourless cake was dense and rich! But it was tasty. I'm pretty sure this was gluten free, MAYBE....but don't quote me on it. It'd definitely get it again.

| Lemon Tart |
I love anything lemon so was excited to try this one. This was perfectly lemony but I wish the crust on the bottom was graham cracker instead of a cake consistency.
Mint Julep Bar
Obviously we had to stop here at least once on our trip, I'm surprised we didn't go more often. Last year I was skeptical about a bourbon-free mint julep but I like these. They aren't too sweet and just minty enough that it doesn't taste like mouthwash. Definitely refreshing!
And then of course there's the Mickey beignets! One of these years I would love to head west for the fall when they start serving the pumpkin beignets. MMMMMM These are always awesome. Reminds me of zeppoles at the carnivals and Italian feasts back home. We had fun teaching the couple in line behind us about these doughy pillows of heaven. They had never heard of them so we insisted that they order them and then showed them how to cover them in sugar and eat them. We turned them into addicts I think. :)

Oh my goodness, that breakfast tamale looks SO GOOD! I didn't get around to eating at Flo's when I was out there...I really wish I had, but there are so many good places to eat in DL!
ReplyDeleteYou're totally right, DL wins hands down in the food category vs. WDW!
I could totally go for a breakfast tamale right now :(
DeleteMmm, Micky beignets!! Flo's V-8 Cafe is fun! I only ate breakfast there, but I liked the decor and the food was good as well. I walked by Jolly Holiday bakery many times but never stopped. Oh well - there is always next time because that lemon tart looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteI probably shouldn't be commenting back to all of these while I'm hungry! Now I want a lemon tart!
DeleteAre any of these places in Disney World or just in CA? The desserts look absolutely delicious!!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately nope, all of these places are only in California. You can get beignets (not Mickey ones though) at Port Orleans French Quarter. There's also Louisiana cooking at Boatwrights, also at POFQ but not the same items. As for desserts? I've seen lemon tarts and flourless chocolate cake at random bakeries on WDW property but their menus always change.
DeleteThanks, good to know. And I will have to check the CA places out when I make it back to Disneyland one day. And now looking back at the pictures has me craving tamales, had one with mole sauce last month, delish!
